i have a new pc, new hdd with windows installed, and i want to transfer the files from my old hdd but im not sure if i can transfer files if my old hdd had windows installed? ive heard that if i plug in the old one the windows drivers might mess up and crash. would choosing my new drive as the boot drive let me take out the files from the old hdd?

Solution
Done carefully, yes.
You just have to ensure that the system does not try to boot off this old donor drive.

I much prefer using a USB SATA dock for these type of issues.
~$20, and zero problems.
