can I plug my gpu fan into my motherboard?

I recently bought a lightly used MSI 970 this model and the fan plug inside the GPU where the fan would normally plug in is broken. I have the fan cord sticking out of the gpu case through a crack where it closes together and plugged into a 7v to molex which goes into the PSU. It works, but the fan runs at 100% at all times and it's quite loud. Is there a way that I can buy an extension/adapter and plug it into a cpufan slot or something on the mobo and be able to control it with a program? MSI afterburner says the fan is running at 0 rpms because it's not plugged into the gpu, so obviously changing it on there does nothing. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

also suggestions for aftermarket coolers or water cooling that doesn't require the use of the fan header would be awesome

the fan is most likely 5volts & you probably have it hooked up to the 12volt side of that molex connector. red is 5v, black is ground & yellow is 12v.

There's only one molex plug. It's a single molex that splits into two fan plugs and one says 7v and the other says 12v. I guess I hadn't checked to see if they are mislabeled, I'll try the 12v and see if it quiets down.

is the fan connector 4 pins & if so what color are the wires?

They are both 4 pin connectors, but they only have 2 actual pins. The other 2 are empty. Here's a picture of them, the 7v is plugged in and the 12v is hanging there http://i.imgur.com/C1nTCzo.jpg

It appears that they each have a black and yellow wire coming out of them.

I'm trying to look into water blocks to get something other than the stock fan that doesn't require the PCB fan header but I've never water cooled so I'm not sure what I really need

know anybody who can do electronic soldering because I think I'm to far away from you to do it as that was my job working at Celestica, repairing circuit boards?

I called the local computer store and they said they need the manufacturer to get parts like that, and I assume they don't do soldering. I may be able to get my dad to do it as he has a soldering iron and the solder (I'm only 16) but I wouldn't know what to solder or what to have him solder for me

the store doesn't need the manufacturer to send the part as that can be got at an electronic supply place. does you high school have an electrical or electronic shop class?

What part is it that they would need? can I just get a new header adapter/extender and take the wires and solder them to the wires from the old header? my apologies I don't know a whole lot about this stuff

actually the fans can be hardwired(soldered) right to the videocard itself to were the broken fan plug is.

so instead of plugging it into the fan plug I would just solder the wires from the fans plug to the wires from the video cards plug?

the wires from the fans would be soldered to where the broken plug is now on the videocard.
