Can I power GTX 780 SLI with 750w

Hi everyone i currently have a brand new system and i have 750w gold power supply with a gigabyte gtx 780 windforce overclock edition and i was wondering if i could add another and if i coukd power it??? I have a i5 4690k...not overclocked so could i power two 780s?

Yes, you should be okay. According to this article , two cards in SLI will consume a little over 500W. As long as you don't over clock, and the PSU is a good brand, you should be safe.

Right off nvidia website. but no you can't, maybe on a 860W PSU but not a 750.
Consider that 1 CPU: 85-135W, 1GPU: 250w, other components 200W. thats already over 500W now put those components under load.
about 550-600watts. soo adding a nother 780 would push it into the 750w when not under load.
but when its underload about 790watts already. to be safe I would recomend a 860-900Watt psu.

Also 1200watts would only be used if your going 3way SLI. so 1200w psu is not the minimum

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 780 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.
GeForce GTX 780 2-way SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 800 Watt power supply unit as minimum.
GeForce GTX 780 3-way SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 1200 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

If you are going to overclock your GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.

I have two 780s with a kil-o-watt meter attached to the system. I have the CPU at 4.6 Ghz and the 780's with a 25% OC. Running Furmark right now I am seeing 740 watts being sucked from the wall socket under Furmark.....at 90% efficiency, that's a PSU rating of 66 watts ..... but under Furmark, the CPU is only drawings 40 watts and at 4.6Ghz and full load it cab pull 135 .... so adding 95 watts with CPU as well as GPUs loaded, comes to 761 watts.

At idle it pulls about 118 watts .... gaming typically in the 550 - 680 range, with peaks into the 700s

Seasonic X series gets 10.0 Performance and 10.0 Build Quality ratings from jonnyguru

Corsair HX series is next in line .... has better ripple and voltage regulation than AX series.
EVGA SuperNova is a match for the HX (10.0 performance rating / 9.5 build quality rating)

Next we have the Seasonic M12 series, XFX Core Edition and Corsair RM series..... Antec HCG . HCP also climbs into this category.

Ignore the recommendations. They are much higher than they need to be, for liability reasons. Do the research, then see if the numbers add up. I found another article here that says the two cards consume 500W in SLI. Unless you plan to over clock them a lot, 750W will give you plenty of headroom.

No, think about the other components. the GPUs an't the only things that draw power.
you would need at least a 850w as stated before

I am metering the power usage at the wall..... just loading the cards and just 40 watts on the CPU, I pull 740 watts from the wall.....add in the missing 100 watts and you well past safe zone for a 750.

250 watts for stock w/ 110 % TDP when overclocked = 250 x 1.10 x 2 cards = 550 watts
Overclocked 4690k = 140 watt
2 sticks RAM = 10 watts
HD & SSD = 10 watts
DVD = 10 watts
MoBo = 40 watts
On Board Sound / NIC / WiFi = 20 watts
(5) USB Devices = 10 watts
Card Reader = 10 watts
(3) Fans = 6 watts
H100i = 20 watts

Total = 826 watts
