I have a 1gb pc2700 stick that i was given.

my pc currently has DDR PC3200 x 2 512mb

can i buy another 27001gb and replace them with the 2 x 2700 1gb ram

even better, as i have 4 slots, can i put all four in?

ie, 2x512 3200 & 2x1gb 2700?

thanks

Dan

Hi newcomer and welcome to the Tom's hardware forum.

1- What mobo do u have? Check the mobo specifications for know that.
2- Both 3200 and 2700 are DDR so if u are using 3200 I think that u can install 2700 without problems.
3- Keep in mind that if u install both 3200 and 2700 the mobo only can run at the lower speed that in this case is 2700

Hi Saint19

this is what the scan told me about the mobo:

Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. 8IPE1000 1.x
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. FB 08/01/2003

many thanks!!

cpi-z told me for the mainboard:

manu: gigabyte
model: 8ipe1000
chipset: intel i865p/pe/g/i848p
southbridge: intel 82801eb (ich5)
lpcio: ite it8712

bios
brand: award software int
version: fb

does this help?

thanks

thanks

at the moment they are spaced apart - 512, nothing, 512, nothing

how would i space them when i get the 2 1gb also?

thanks

Keep the like size modules in the same colored slots ! so keep the 2 - 512MB modules where they are and add the new ones to the other slots.

From the Pic that was posted earlier by saint19 it looks like that would be the correct method -- It shows 2 orange and 2 blue slots and normally the Maker will color code them so that you know which 2 sockets are linked for dual channel !
