Can I put a GTX 1050ti in a PC with i7-870

I gave my old (pre built) gaming PC to my brother which can still play most older games. Basically we are wondering if we can put a modern GPU for 1080p gaming with modern games with a GTX 1050ti or GTX 1060 on a core i7-870. Would this work for decent gaming and not bad bottleneck or choking issues? If it doesn't work I'll tell my brother he'll need to start saving up to build a new PC.

My new rig I built last year is a modern i7-6700k/GTX 980ti hooked up on a 2K monitor 😀 Needless to say my brothers are jealous and want to game with me lol.

You can definitely pair a GTX 1050 ti with an i7 870.

I think the bottleneck would start in the GTX 1070 range.

Sir it will not bottleneck.or juat only very few few bottleneck
But u know socket 1156 still can used for game on fhd in good frames with this gpu and cpu if we use a little overclock
But if he is a crazy gamer and can afford buy a mobo on lga 1151 and buy a system like yourself. Special and perfect gaming xp
How ever itf he cant so be it . No problen with this gpu on that mobo i think...
