Hello everyone.

I was wondering if you could put a gtx 760 evga FTW in the alienware x51 with my current x51 330w power supply and my x51 configuration

CPU: Intel i7 4770 quad core
Ram: 8gb
Storage: 120gb ssd 1tb 7200rpm hd
DVD drive
Win 7

Solution
It's risky, plain and simple. The lowest total wattage I've seen for a 760 based system was pretty close to 330W, but that doesn't take into account capacitor aging, or any number of other issues. Running your power supply (in this case an external power brick, is that right?) for long periods at absolute max wattage will lead it to an early grave, and the worry with all failing power supplies, is what other components will it try and take with it when it finally gives up?

So, could you theoretically do it (providing it fits in the case)? Yes. Would most people here recommend it? No.

Short answer, no. Taken from EVGA's site itself:

"Minimum of a 500 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 30 Amps.)
Total Power Draw : 170 Watts"

You're going to need a bigger PSU if you want a 760 FTW. Plus, that's not even taking into account whether it will actually fit in the case, which I'm not 100% sure it would.

EDIT: Ninja'd ;)

I read something that someone put a gtx 760 EVGA SC inside the alienware x51 and it worked just fine and while gaming never crashed.

Guess What I two are in the same Situation and You know what Do it! I'm also pretty much did it I had a MSI 2GB GDDR5 and I'm upgrading to a EVGA 04G-P4-2768-KR G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 760 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support SC 4GB w/ EVGA ACX Cooler Video Card

My old graphics card overheated because of a cable that got in the way. But lots of people with x51's are using the same exact graphics card as the one i have listed above. I'm a bit skeptical of when it hits its max power Supply but really using Google chrome, Steam and Photoshop i really only use 15 - 25Watts AT MOST. So the power supply we have Brother it puts a 19V Output so we pass the Voltage but the Minimum 500W PSU is recommended it will work but may i offer you to use the EVGA PercisionX 15 to regulate the Power use to go down!

Now the ACX coolers is going to make your GPU sound like a a wind Tunnel becuase of the Compact space in the x51. So at times it may be a bit on the louderder side but at least you know that its cooling and not risking damages.

Hope you have my word in this too!

Also I talked with staff of EVGA the Specs matched up with my MSI 2GB 760 so it will fit the case. Also the MSI had the same power consumption as like in the EVGA Graphics Card.

Well after looking around I saw the 660 FTW 3GB GDDR5 Superclocked is the healthiest choice is for my alienware. Never had any problems its been 3 Days. Runs like gold.
