Can I put a PSU in a CD Rom bay?

I have the HP 6200 Pro Microtower computer which has a 320 90% psu. I am looking to upgrade the current GPU, a Nvidia 650, to a 960 or AMD r9 380. The Motherboard takes a very strange connection pin that isn't standard on any PSU, which is where I ask my question. I have seen a user for the HP 8200 Elite state that he had the system minus the GPU run on the stock psu and then had the PSU in the bay power the GPU. Can I do this? Any help is appreciated, but help with people with experience with HP desktops is even more welcomed. Thanks!

In theory, maybe. Would I recommend it? No. The dual PSU setup, if ever attempted should be a very short-term solution.

HP use a lot of proprietary connectors, so even moving it to a new case is unlikely an option either.

If I were you, assuming you still have a viable CPU, I'd try to pick up a 'normal', used motherboard, PSU & cheap case.
For example, http://www.ebay.com/itm/GA-Z68AP-D3-LGA-1155-ATX-Intel-Z68-Motherboard-/322179096268?hash=item4b035edecc:g:26EAAOSwuzRXeCKM

That way, your new PSU can power your motherboard & GPU.

Yeah it seems like it would be possible. Using some images from google it looks like you'd have to remove your CD drive and then find a way to route the cables through the CD drive chasis. It'll take some fiddling around but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work, do you have an extra PSU to try it out with?

I plan on eventually doing that since my Case can't hold a HUGE graphics card (7.6 is the maximum i believe.) But If it works and doesn't harm anything, I dont see the problem with it. The reason I have to get a special PSU is because of the Proprietary PSU and motherboard it comes with. I figure I can do this, and then when I have enough get a new motherboard, psu, and case. Is there anything I said wrong there? I am horrible at this area though so I may be completely incorrect.

Do you know of any PSUS that could work? I don't believe that a normal ATX psu will fit, but something like this would. http://www.amazon.com/FSP-PCI-Express-X5-Discontinued-Manufacturer/product-reviews/B002IZE5RE

I can't seem to find anymore though. Know of any?

I found this and it looks like it would fit.

To my knowledge this isn't going to damage your computer so you should be good in that respect. You could possibly put the other PSU outside the case? I mean this doesn't sound like it's supposed to look pretty. Is there anyway you can find out the dimensions of the current PSU?

If this is your computer I would expect it to be a normal ATX size PSU. Take a pic of the back and I'll know.

I can not take a picture unfortunately, but yes it is. Its a special psu though that has special connectors for the mobo tho, so unless I want to do a FULL rebuild, I cant upgrade that. That's why I am trying to get it into the bay. It also has special screws that connects it to the back, not regular screws.
