Can i put and PCI-E ssd in my mobo

I have an old p7p55d and i want to get an ssd to make it more snappy and improve some loading times, however the board has only 3.0 sata ports so any sata ssd would be bottlenecked.Will a pcie ssd workd with my motherboard and can i maki it a boot drive?

Unlike established storage controller standards such as SATA, there are no standard storage commands for controllers interfacing with PCIe buses, making it difficult to ensure that one vendor's controller working over a PCIe bus will work with another vendor's controller, even if that too is operating over a PCIe bus.

Actually, it would not. SATA 3.0 is basically the latest SATA version and most modern SSDs are designed for it. Truth be told, even the worst of the older SATA 2-based SSDs easily wipe the floor with any mechanical drive you can buy. There is not a reason to avoid sata drives. Get Samsung 850 EVO or Crucial MX100 (250GB or more preferred) and call it a day. Satisfaction guaranteed 😉

Ah, that's another story. But that doesn't change almost nothing in this case. I had a 6Gb/s drive on a older SATA-2 based board and it still worked like a charm, and I know many people who still do and are happy. Apart from benchmarks, you won't be able to tell the difference. thanks i get the sata ssd them, bound to be leaps ahead of my wd green 5400rpm,maybe il get a seagate barracuda 1tb with it, they are pratty cheap

Sir, virtually *ANY* SSD you can buy today wipes the floor even with the fastest mechanical drive you can buy, let alone 5400 rpm model 😉 You will be blown away by this difference.

Yeah, a good 1TB drive along an SSD is a nice idea. I prefer WD drives myself, had bad luck with Seagates lately...
