My current motherboard socket only supports AM3 cpus with 938 pins but I am wondering if I can put a AM3+ cpu in there as an upgrade?

Also, how can I check what is the max watt CPU i can get for my motherboard. My current cpu draws 95 watts and I want to get a new cpu that draws 125 watts. But I am not sure if my motherboard can support a 125 watt cpu. Where can i check?

If it helps, this is my current motherboard:

Solution
I believe some manufactures brought AM3+ CPU compatibility to some AM3 mobos with a BIOS update. However, a) I doubt that's the case with an OEM mobo like that and, b) I doubt that mobo can handle a 125W CPU regardless.

My answer would be no.

As I said above, some AM3 mobos did support at least some AM3+ CPUs with a BIOS update. E.g. Asus CROSSHAIR IV FORMULA

But I doubt this will work in the OP's case.

We posted at nearly the same time and yours wasn't up while I was typing. That has been the case for vendor boards of previous AMD generations as well; it doesn't help the OP.

The board does NOT support AM3+ CPU's. (the gateway board is a rebranded acer)
