[SOLVED] Can I put two RAMs either in the two red or two black slots?

So I know if I wanna put two RAMs on my motherboard they have to be in the slots of matching colors. My motherboard (Maximus VII Hero) has 2 red slots and 2 black slots for RAM.
My question is if its ok to choose to put my two RAMs in either both red slots or both black slots.
I know this question sounds stupid but I wanna be sure. For example a GPU should normally goes on the top PCI slot of a motherboard. If you put it below the top slot the GPU wont turn on or work at full capacity.
Does the same happen to the RAM or both black and red slots will run just fine at the same speed?

Solution
I have put ram in slots other than what the board recommended and it worked fine many times and I have never had an issue but there is a VERY low chance something could go wrong and it is more for compatibility with the cpu cooler. If you are using the intel stock cooler or a cooler that will not overhand the ram slots, you will be fine in any ram slots but if you have a bigger cpu cooler than it can overhang the first black ram slot.
Motherboard manufacturers usually recommend putting them in the two matching ram slots farthest from the cpu (red slots) to avoid compatibility issues. It is better to put them in the red ram slots but if you want to put them in the black slots it would be fine to but depending on the board and its features it may (very unlikely) cause issues.

Hmm.. so I CAN put them on the black ones next to the motherboard. You`re saying that the possibility of compatibility issues is still very low?

Thanks for helping a noob man. Also just to know. I was asking this cause one RAM Dimm retention tab broke. So I wanted to use the pair of blacks that are closer to the CPU for the RAM. But I did some research and found out that you don't really need to worry that the RAM will fall off with out those and that they are mostly to make it easier to extract the RAM.
Also I put a second ram in my pc and my computer had trouble booting and even froze when i took both off and installed one. My problem wasn't faulty new RAM or that the memory wasn't placed correctly in the board. It was that the BIOS wasn't up to date. I updated my BIOS and now both RAMs are working perfectly.
Also before my BIOS update when I looked at the task manager for RAM speed, the RAM was 1067 MHz. Now both are at 1600MHz
