Basiclly what i want to know is can i replace a motherboard on a computer so i can install Intel Core i7 Without having to replace the whole computer? And also if so which motherboard should i buy for intense gaming?

Solution
hehe no worries, overclocking is when you make your parts faster by upping the frequency/voltage. It's a hobby for tech people :p

That site I linked shows the the motherboards available from lowest to highest.
If you only have $50 to spend, then get this one

Here's a list. If you are getting one of the haswell refresh i7's then get a h97 board. If not, most boards should be fine.

Edit: if you aren't overclocking or anything, then a cheap motherboard is fine.

What's your current system?

hmm, well I guess it depends what you are doing. If you have that old of a graphics card, I'm not sure the best thing is to put a $300 i7 in it :p

You could put in an i5 for $170-180 and a 750ti for $139.

Again, it depends what you use your computer for.

The model/series is usually on the back/side of the case. If you go to control panel---> system it should usually tell you that to.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4440 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor ($174.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($49.99 @ Mwave)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card ($139.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $364.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Without knowing your power supply, I wouldn't get better more than the 750ti. The 750ti can play watchdogs on ultra at 30+fps.

What games are you playing?

borderlands 2
league of legends

Well, you don't really need much :p Those are actually very easy games for even $70 graphics cards to run.

Borderland 2 benchmarks
http://techreport.com/review/26050/nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-maxwell-graphics-processor/6

League of legends takes even less, so don't worry about it.

One thing to consider though, is that you might not be able to reuse your ram if it's DDR2.
I'm also wondering if your case is too small to fit that motherboard in. Can you try opening it up or looking around the whole case for a model/series number?

Also, for $400-500 you could build brand new if you wanted to.

Could you do $500?

I understand not wanting to upgrade, but you will already need a new processor, motherboard, ram and graphics card. We don't know how good the power supply is in your case either.

From what I saw, it was a $500 pc when you bought it. If it lasted 7 years, you got your money's worth out of it. A new $500 build would last around 5-7 years to. At least comparing it to the performance of your computer now.

Well, I actually have answered your question. I showed you benchmarks to borderlands.

I told you to that a new graphics card would bottleneck (slowdown) your system because of the processor.

These are the miscommunications that happen when you don't make a good first post :p
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/353572-31-build-upgrade-advice

Have you tried playing League of legends and borderlands 2 on your computer? If they run fine, then why change anything? I just figured they weren't running good for you and that's why you wanted to upgrade.

alright i see. So could u give me recommendations for a $500 gaming PC
what about this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227570 ?

So another point, prebuilts are about 25% more expensive than building a computer yourself. At this budget, you would get a very bad system from a prebuilt. I can make you a good $500 build that will be 25%-30 better than a prebuilt at the same price.

One thing I haven't mention, do you have an operating system disc? like the windows 7 or 8 install CD?
