Can I replace a stock Cooler Master heatsink with Intel heatsink? I just ordered a socket 1155 motherboard for an HP pro ( without a cooler). All pix on the net show it had a Cooler Master heatsink. My question is if I install an Intel heatsink for the same socket CPU, will the fan work properly? The wire colours are different, but both Cooler master and Intel coolers have a 4 pin plug. In other words are the connections standard so that +12v, gnd, sense, speed etc will all work right? Thanks in advance for your answer!

Solution
If it fits and is compatible it would work. The 4pin is standard for all cpu cooler fans irrespective of the wire colours. My cpu cooler has all black wires.

Thanks, Ron. It confirms my thoughts. Just for good measure I had in the meantime managed to test all manner of spare PC fans and Cooler fans and they all powered up with 12v on pins 1 and 2. Pin1 = gnd and pin 2 = +12v dc. But your experience proves it. Have a good one. Cheers!
