I have an Alienware Area 51 R2 liquid water cooling I got from someone. The fan is very loud so I want to replace it with a "be quiet Silent wings 3". Can I do this or will something go wrong?

Solution
As far as I can tell. The Alienware Area 51 R2 uses standard 4 pin connectors (unlike some Dells). As this post shows a user upgrading their unit with Corsair ML120 Pro RGB. I didn't see any mention of tweaking the pinout. But only some connectors are useful for PWM. So, read through their post for a detailed how to.

I'd expect the Be Quiet Silent Wings 3 to work. Also with similar results to the ML 120. As both fans have a similar noise to airflow ratio through a radiator.

If all youre trying to do is replace the fan then all you need to worry about is the size of the fan. make sure its the same as the one you are replacing. 120mm or 140mm. However you will want to make sure the fan you are getting is equal to or more RPM than what you already have, using a fan with less RPM could cause issues

Fan rpm doesn't mean diddly. What means everything is the fan itself.

You have to figure the radiator. It's got a certain amount of fins, with only so much space between them for air to move. That's resistance. Any restrictive airflow will require static pressure to over come and enough cfm to do the job. But thats where it gets trixy. Too much sp and too much cfm can be worse for cooling as the air travels too fast through the rad to pick up much heat.

So a balance must be struck. Between sp, cfm, noise. The best fan ever for the aio rad properties was the old scythe gentle typhoon. Mediocre cfm, mediocre sp, perfect ratio for the aio radiator.

Right now, hands down, the absolute 2 best rad fans are the Noctua A12x25 and A12x15 slim.
