Question can i replace my laptop processer i3 m350 with intel i7 3rd gen cpu

Hello guys, my hp laptop gpu is busted and im not getting any display. so i was thinking if its possible to remove the processor intel i7 3rd gen from my hp envy dv6 7218x and replace it with the i3 350m processor from travelmate 4740.

You cant since theyre both different gen, their chipset are totally different, also if its a BGA it wouldnt be a good thing since you will mess up with modding the bios and stuffs. Better get a good used decent Laptop with cheap price

Why would you, GT 630m is the all way better than your intel hd, also you cant change them for display.

its busted
im not getting any display but the cpu fan and hard disk are running.
i tried to connect it to vga and hdmi but no use
the screen is blank

thats pretty odd, but mainly laptop displays use intel hd and for output they use dedicated gpu

well thats my theory also, when i went to pc repair show he said that the gpu is not working and he need to replace the motherboard

well, if you wanted to then go for the repair, if you dont, buy another laptop, or connect the laptop hdd onto your computer to back it up.

it wont work because you need a screen to install the driver, if you have install the nvidia driver before then use nvidia card and plug it to external monitor.

they use mini PCIe slot, the wifi slot. there is a mini pcie slot to pcie x16 riser

Try with 1 stick ram, in each slot,, also switch the ram sticks, remove battery and power cable always when you touch ANY motherboard connector or ram slot. Just test in between with power cable then plug off.

You can still try reflash bios by this method, download bios with your exact model and follow this guide :

Also test to boot the motherboard "barebone" remove everything including power button cable, just leave cpu in place and ram. Then remove cmos battery too. After that plugin power cable it should boot on without power button, if you get picture then faulty component somewhere.

Its usually the amd northbridge failing on these dv4-5-6 series laptops so you wont get picture with egpu.

Remove processor from the motherboard and tapes near the ati radeon gpu chip and northbridge chip, reflow 150c with heatgun, if you get picture then problem inside the cheap "fixed" by heat expansion. Not by cracked solder.

If it works , might be a day up to a year but thats unlikely, atleast if you dont do higher temperature reflow. Its not really considered a fix since the chip is about to fail.

Real fix is new motherboard, you can fit many other dv6 motherbords in the "case", some with slight modification. Thing is there is few chipsets which are more failsafe, i can tell more on these if you decide to get new mobo.
