Can I replace this RAM stick?

Can I replace that RAM stick from my friends old Dell with one of these that was on sale at newegg? He already went and got it so if you say no that'd be a shame. I dont have the make of the desktop though all I do know is its a dell and I BELIEVE has either a Xeon or a Pentium inside

Oh boy. This will be fun!

The RAM removed was PC2 5300F and the ram your friend brought was PC312800. notice the F at the end of the 5300 which is most likely EEC memory that came from a server.

So essentially your friend brought DDR3 RAM to replace DDR2 RAM.................so, nope. I don't think it will work.

Then is there any kind of upgrade you might recommend for around the same price? If possible we would like to at least get something a bit better with maybe at the minimum 6gb
