i have 140mm fan that i salvaged from a dead psu,it has only 2 wires power and ground, i used it for extra airflow in my case directly to psu ( power to 5v - ground to ground ) no problems ,

but when i added a new hard drive i disconnected the wires, put them back again but i made a mistake i put the ground to 12v instead of ground this time, and boom!

when i powered the pc it instantly goes off . no problems but the fan is dead now can i revive it somehow ? its a really good quality fan

Solution
If the fan is plugged in properly after plugging it in the wrong way and still doesn't work you can try another fan header. It's possible you may have broken/burnt that fan header on your motherboard. If you have another fan to test, try plugging it in where that one's plugged in to see if the other fan can get power. If so then the fan you plugged in backwards may be burnt and time for a new case fan.
