Can I run 2 different gpus on my pc, one for gaming and another one to watch HD movies on TV

I currenly have an r7 260x which is my gaming card. But only 1 hdmi, 1 dvi and 1vga. I use the hdmi for gaming on my monitor as it has sound.

What I want to do, is connecto a cheap gpu with hdmi I have on my computer So I can use the TV to watch movies or put something like another video of the sort with its own sound . Is this feasible? running 2 totally different gpus , 1 for each monitor?

I searched all around and people say use crossfire, sli o r just use one gpu, but the dvi does not have sound and the gpu wont have enough performance for gaming and hd videos.

you dont need 2 gpu, just use just onboard graphics and conect the tv there, just in setup use it like an extension of your destopk whiout aumenting the resolution.

According to his other thread, he has ryzen so no igpu. The 260x has dp, not vga.

You can use different gpus, even mix nvidia, amd, and intel. They will just work independently the same as using the same gpus with cf/sli disabled. But I would suggest not to and just use an adapter to your 260x, dp to hdmi. It's simpler.

Also running multiple gpus does not offload the work to the other gpu. Software like to just put all gpu acceleration on the main gpu. Plus playing videos won't affect gaming fps.

I have an adapter, but there is no sound coming from the monitor If I used, also the pc is against the wall, using the adapter pushes the pc a bit to the front on the desk . What I wanted to do was just use a really cheap old gpu just to use an extra hdmi adapter for the tv. Thanks anyway for the tip.

Windows will only output sound to 1 device but you can set the video player to output to a different device in its settings. If it's not showing up at all as a sound device then I'd have to wonder what adapter you got. Since it pushes it out, then I'd assume a cheap passive one which may be the issue.

But you are fine with using another cheap gpu.

Thank you, yes im aware of only to one output , if I use an dvi to hdmi adapter, or just an hdmi cable, there is no sound coming from the monitor. I know some programs allow me to use another output device for specific programs or at least something of the sort.
