Good Morning community,

So for a while I've had a dual screen set up of a 19" and a 24" monitors. Recently, my 19" monitor has died and I've been looking for an upgrade. Ideally I am looking for a 27" monitor, 1080p, with 144hz refresh rate at around the $300 mark. Newegg currently has a sale on just such a monitor, link as follows.

AOC G2770PQU Black 27" 144hz 1ms(GTG) Professional Gaming Monitor

My question is, can a gtx 670, i5 2500k CPU @ 3.30 GHz, with 16 GB of DDR3 RAM, utilize such a monitor or should I wait and upgrade other components before I delve into the land of 144hz? I have read that g-sync will solve these issues, but I'm not ready to pay the g-sync price. So can the above set up run w/o g-sync?

PS. I am aiming to use this monitor for gaming and I am looking forward to playing such titles as SCII:LOV, StarWars: Battlefront, Battleborn, and other PC games. Also is 144hz worth it? I've only physically seen 60hz, but I've read many articles stating that 144hz is the way to go. Thanks in advance!

There are 24" G-sync monitors for $350USD which I went with, you don't need G-sync to enjoy high hz, If you're not updating GPU i'd run games @ 85hz for a better than 60 experience which is more attainable.

Best analogy is pull up a youtube 60fps video, it will feel super smooth compared to a 24fps video that we mostly see. Games kinda have the same effect going from 60hz to higher.

You need high FPS to enjoy high hz which is why we're saying you may want to update GPU.

I do not think it will be unplayable, but you should consider getting a GPU upgrade. The rest seems decent enough to last you a bit longer, but your GPU has fallen behind the times slightly. you could aim for another 24in monitor to save a bit and replace the GPU instead, you will get a much improved performance this way.
You just need to decide for yourself, if you want a massive boost in performance or a big screen with lower fps.
