Hi guys. I just purchased and received my 2x8gb vengeance corsair 2400 memory sticks. However currently in my system I have installed 2x4gb vengeance corsair 2400 sticks as well. Both the 16 gigs and 8 gigs have exactly the same specs in terms of latency and frequency and my hope is that is it possible for me to be able to run them paired for a total of 24 gigs worth of ram.

I have a feeling it may bottleneck or something or cause some damage to my pc so I just want to know if it is plausible and safe to do this.

Tldr: can I run 2x4gb +2x8gb ram modules with same spec and make together for a combined 24 gb of ram

I wouldn't hessitate. You have a good MB, strong PSU and all kinds of glitter in bios/efi. You can put them (colour coded) as you want. 4, 8, 4, 8/ 8, 4, 8, 4
Your motherboard needs to support >16gb.
You also need an os capable of supporting 24gb; windows 7 home will not.

That said, you may have problems.
Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
A motherboard must manage all the ram using the same specs of voltage, cas and speed.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.
Although, I think the problem has lessened with the newer Intel chipsets. Still,
it is safer to get what you need in one kit.

I think it likely you will have issues.
Go ahead and try it.
If you have problems, often increasing the ram voltage will fix the problem.

If all else fails, just use your new 16gb kit and be happy.

My motherboard supports up to 32 gigs of ram.

Here's a full breakdown of my PC:

I7-4790K CPU
gtx 980
supernova 1000 watt power supply
2x4gb Vengeance corsair 2400 11-13-13-31 1.65 v
Asus maximus vii ranger

So my MB support 2x dual channels so it has 4 slots.

Can I run it like this; 4-8-4-8 = 24 gig ram total in their respective dual channel slots.

Thanks a lot for the help as well guys I'm beginning to gauge a picture now.

I am also running windows 10 on direct x version 12!
