can i run 4gb ddr3 ram with 2gb ddr3 ram

Hi guys, i am upgrading my PC that has 4gb ddr3 ram. It has an integrated gpu and i want to buy rx550 and 2gb of ram since i am low on budget. would 2gb of ram work or spend more money for 2x4gb ram.

PC specs:
i3-2100
ddr3 4gb ram
integrated gpu (new would be rx550 2gb)

DDR3 is pretty tolerant when it comes to mix and match of RAM sticks but you'd have best chance if both have same frequency and other parameters like Cl as old one. Still, there's no guarantees until you try.
