can i run a 8700k on my h270z

Solution
No. While both are technically lga1151, because of pinset changes, you might as well consider the 8th Gen cpus/mobo's as lga1151 v2. Meaning the 8th Gen cpus only work on a 300 series motherboard, the 6th/7th gen only work on 100/200 series motherboards. The best possible cpu for a 200 series motherboard is a i7-7700k, you won't be able to use any 8xxx cpu, whether i3, i5 or i7.
