You should be able to run them both just fine. You will probably run into some problems with 64 player maps in BF3 with just a dual core though. Should be able to run at medium though at least.
A Quad core CPU will run the 64 player maps much better as these are CPU intensive areas. You can always try them and see how your computer runs them and determine then if you need to upgrade.

I don't think CPU will be problem because BF3 relies mostly on GPU. Core i3, Core i7 or FX-8150, doesn't really matter.
I have a friend that could play everything just fine with his dual core until he got into a 64 player Vehicle map. There was just too much going on for the CPU to keep up with that much processing.
When you get that many players running and shooting and add the vehicles and all fo the phisics that are involved with this it is a lot going on. He had no problems though with 32 player maps.
