I'd like to know if this laptop can run GTA V on the lowest possible game settings and at 720p resolution. I'm only looking for 25-30 FPS here. What do you guys think? If you don't think I can, is it possible that a further lowering of resolution will help?

Manufacturer: MSI
Processor: Intel Core i5-4210M 2.6 GHz (dual core, hyperthreaded to 4 logical cores, turbo boost up to 3.2 GHz)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 820M 2GB (base clock speed of 775 MHz, boost clock speed of 955 MHz, 2GB dedicated memory)
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
Hard Drive: 750GB 5400RPM
OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

that's ridiculous. As long as the laptop doesn't overheat, it will not reduce its lifespan in anyway.

Its like saying you shouldn't drive your car, because it will reduce its lifespan.

That is exactly my point, it will heat up and as the gpu is very low end, it will most likely throttle which will reduce the fps even further. This will not make the gameplay very enjoyable. I am not saying don't every play games, but only play the games that the gpu is designed for.

Sorry I took so long to pick the best solution. I just did. However, for reference...

After having played the game extensively on the laptop I mentioned in the original post, I can report the following data. I played the game at 1366x768 with the High texture setting, and maximum render distance and population variety, and near maximum population density. I ran all other settings at the lowest, and I put half V-sync on.

Using these settings, even after hours of gaming, my GPU ran at about 75-80C, with the highest recorded peak during the few weeks of gaming having been 84C.

The computer does indeed manage to pull a solid 30 FPS (limited by half V-sync). It actually goes up to 40 or so FPS if I turn off V-sync, but I don't let it run that high due to heat.

For the record, I've spoken with countless numbers of NVIDIA representatives and they've all told me that for mobile GPUs such as mine (especially those under the Fermi architecture), maximum load temperatures can safely reach 85-90C (90C being the highest safe temperature) without the lifespan of the card being reduced or any damage happening to the card.
