I am getting the hp dv7-6b55dx.

Sorry but you are wrong, HD 3000 should be able to run the game on low 800x600.

Not saying its the best most fun way to play but it is playable.

Well, not medium settings. Without a graphics card you are going to be heavily limited. That i5 isn't very good either. 2.4 GHz is nothing, some people have their i5s at 4.8 GHz, which is double that.

The CPU is fine, as the other specs, the only problem is the Intel HD 3000 card.
I have a laptop with an Intel i3 1,4 Ghz CPU and an Nvidia GT 620m videocard and I can play Skyrim at med settings @ 35-60 fps

A year ago I would of been delighted to play Skyrim on low at 800 x 600. :p
At that point I still had my old laptop and could barely play Oblivion on low at 800 x 600. I can't believe I used to be fine with that. I played Oblivion for over 100 hours on that machine.
