So i was able to get the Asus Maximus Extreme viii motherboard from my friend for cheap and I accepted it even though the third PCLE slot is gone. He ripped it out removing a graphics card but everything works. My question is can i have a graphics card on the first PCLE and then another on the fourth PCLE and run it in SLI or would that cause a problem?

Solution
Can you? Yes. Should you? No!!
See the problem is the 3rd and fourth slots run MARGINALLY slower than the top two.
The top two are x16. Third is x4 and fourth is x8.
Yes you can in that it supports 4 way sli.
But no you shouldn't because you will flat out not get the performance at all. Plus it's very far away from the CPU. The closer to the CPU the faster, relatively speaking.
Go with the first two slots. That will optimize sli!
