Can I run Steam off External SSD

I plan on buying a Samsung T1 Portable SSD http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Portable-250GB-External-MU-PS250B/dp/B00RWXV8FE/

I was wondering if I moved all my steam folders/library to that ssd if it would work. Like would I have any problems when logging in, would I be able to use that ssd on different computers without having problems, would i experience any speed decreases? thank you
