Question Can I run two sets of 16GB x 2 to get 64GB?

HI,

I want to build a new system but it seems that 64GB memory packs of 16GB x 4 are more expensive than two sets of 16GB x 2.

Corsair says I cannot do this even if I choose the same specification. They say that most system crashes are due to this.

I had assumed that I could buy one pack of 16GB x 2 and add another later.

Are Corsair right?

Corsair is (mostly) correct.

RAM is only guaranteed to work as sold.
Set A - 32GB (2x16GB)
This works

Set B - 32GB (2x 16GB)
This works

Set A + Set B - May work or may fail.

What are you looking at 64GB to utilize?

I want to run a large number of virtual machines which is why I am looking for 64GB. I also want to do quite a bit of graphics/video work. I probably don't need 64GB but 32GB is not enough for what I want to do.
