Just received my i5 10400F-based new machine and it makes this random flapping noise. Unable to precisely locate the cause of the noise, I have to turn off the case fans one by one and see if it makes the noise disappear.

Problem is, the noise is pretty random. Sometimes I don't hear it for an entire day.

Question: can I safely disconnect the back case fan for a day or two? Same question with the top case fan? (just in case, my case is NZXT H510). Can it even be disconnected permanently? (considering there are 2 case fans and considering I understand i5 don't get that hot)

The usual cause for fan noise is momentary contact with a cable.
Put a paper tube to your ear to try to locate the offending fan.

What fans do you have and where are they installed.
Normal would be two front intakes and one rear exhaust.

If you have two front intakes, you can disconnect any exhaust fans.
In particular, I might not use the top exhaust fan anyway.
The rear fan is good to direct airflow over the components.
A top exhaust will tend to direct cooling air to bypass your motherboard and graphics card.

Your current setup has no intake fans. Dust will be sucked in through all available cracks/openings in the case.

Move top fan to front as intake and add another frontal intake fan.
This case is meant to be used with AIO radiator placed at front. If you don't have AIO, then you have to install additional fans.

Thanks but that's not really the subject
