Question Can I setup a dual laptop streaming setup and if so, how

Hi! I’ve got an older Lenovo Legion with a i5 and GTX1050 just lying around as I upgraded from that to my current laptop. My current laptop is a Lenovo Legion 5 as well but the specs are:
16gb RAM
AMD Ryzen 5 5600H
AMD Radeon RX6600M 8GB

If anyone could provide me with an in depth explanation on how I can setup a dual laptop streaming-gaming setup, that would be something I can work with as well. I’ve seen many threads about this but all they say is you need a capture card but no explanation about how the mic/headset stuff would work because if i’m gaming i’d probably play with friends and use discord etc as well. I also have a monitor that I plug into my laptop using HDMI because I assume the HDMI plugging into a capture card etc will probably create another requirement for a product etc.

I know it’s a long ask but any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi welcome to the forums!

Just to confirm what you're asking here: You want to play the games on your new laptop, then capture and stream the gameplay using the other laptop?

Okay that is doable then.

You'll need a few pieces of equipment, but it shouldn't be too difficult.

You will need a capture card to get the gameplay from one machine to another. Elgato has some external capture cards that should serve your needs. You just have to decide if you want to capture 1080, 1440p, or 4K resolution. It'll obviously depend on what your computer can run the games you want to stream at.

I would then probably use the elgato software that comes bundled with the capture card on my stream machine to set up my audio correctly.

I see! Thanks so much for this. I’m going to try to cop the capture card over the next few days and set it up.
Also, I know that the capture card will need to be plugged in via HDMI, and I’m already using the HDMI port to connect to my monitor, how would i route two HDMI cables through?

Since you seem to be pretty well versed in this area, would it be possible for me to reach out to you personally via other means or DMs of any kind if I do need further help with all this. I understand if you would like to respect your privacy and space.

Thank you so much for your help regardless!

In this image you can kind of see how you can connect the capture card with a passthrough to a monitor and your old laptop that you will use to stream the footage you are capturing.

So your HDMI out on your new laptop gets plugged into the capture card, then the capture card connects to your streaming laptop via USB. The capture card will also have an HDMI out and you should connect that to your monitor and play the game like you normally do.

I would run your Discord and things on your stream PC so it will be easier to capture the sound if it is set up on the same computer.
