Question Can I shave a milimeter of the top of a micro sd card? My micro SD card doesn't fit snugly, it's a bit too high.

Can I shave a milimeter of the top of a sd card? Or off the top of the back of it? My SD card is a bit too high for the slot in my phone, its hard to close it down, and I get disconnects frequently, even had one of them get corrupted, enter read only mode and had to get another one.
Will this damage it? Or is it ok?

Not okay.

Something is wrong.

Are you sure that the SD card is not in some sort of adapter?

= = = =

Use a bright flashlight to inspect the slot - could be debris or something else blocking the insertion.

Post more information about the hardware (phone, card, make, model, etc.) and applicable specs.

If possible take a couple of photographs and post here via imgur (www.imgur.com).

Do not attempt to shave or otherwise modify anything.

Here you go: I don't think there is any dirt there. It just doesn't sit flush on that sliding thing. https://postimg.cc/gallery/NGhcYRs

May be the wrong carrier for the SD card.

Did the carrier come with the phone or from Kingston?

The SIM card not "snapping" into place.

Is there a bit of a slot for the "pink" end of the SIM to slide into and thus allow the other end of the Kingston SIM snap down and flush into the carrier?

Do not force.

Wait for other posts and suggestions.

Make and model phone?

Specs?

The sim card sits down perfectly. I bought my micro Sd card. The pink part rests on the back of it, the sticking point is somewhere around the halfway point. Its a motorola g60. I have another motorola, different make, with the same kind of micro sd, and that works perfect. Never even disconnected a sd card. This one does it constantly.

Not sure what else to suggest other than to wait and see if anyone else notices some problem with the SIM and/or tray.

Or may be aware of some related issues regarding the products in question.

The side that sticks out is where all of the memory is so shaving it will be very dangerous, there should be a little bit of plastic that you could shave off but the chances are very high that you will kill the sd card.
Shaving the side with the connector is much safer but you could still kill the card.

It could be down to manufacturing tolerances. MicroSD cards are quite small and a badly manufactured card may have a small blemish or lump in the plastic, making its profile bigger than normal,

Is the card "genuine" or a cheap clone purporting to be a high-quality Sandisk or Samsung card? I use a program called h2testw to weed out fake cards, as sold on eBay and AliExpress.

What make and model is the phone?

Best thing is to get a replacement for the card. Don't mess with the card or the phone carrier.
