My question is if i could simply remove the RAM on my PC with a better kit that has either (4x4GB) or (2x8GB). I am currently running 8GB DDR4. And if so which sticks are recommended? It seems the RAM prices are inflated at the moment and i dont want to spend too much on RAM. Here are my specs.

Intel i5-8600k
Asus Prime z370-a
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Windforce
Patriot Signature Line 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400
600 Watt Power Supply
Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212
1TB harddrive
Thank you.

Yes.
In fact replacing is the safe way to upgrade.
I might suggest buying a 2 x 8gb kit of ddr4 2400 speed ram that closely matches the kit you have.
You might find that your old ram plays well with the new and you have 24gb.
Such compatibility is not 100% guaranteed so be prepared to sell the old ram or keep it as a spare.

8600K is dual channel only so there is no performance advantage to a 4 x 4gb kit, and such a kit will be more expensive anyway.
