I have modded the Q300L case to improve airflow and I am tempted to reduce the cabling by simply cutting the thick USB3 cable running from the front USB ports and the HD audio cable as I never use these.

If I cut them with scissors will this wreck the front panel or should it still work?

Hi @exit35

Short answer is yes. (but read below 1st)

Long answer - Why not just remove the front panel of the case and remove the USB cable? Unplug it from your motherboard and then tuck it behind the front of the front cover out of sight. This way you can reconnect it at a later time if you change your mind or need the ports. Sure you can cut them, but make sure you unplug the end that plugs into your mobo as it has power and can possibly short out if it touches your case and that would in turn possibly cause your mobo to fry or other connected components. Also make sure your PC is turned off and you hold the power button for 5 seconds once off. Unplug the PSU as well.

Make sure that the PW/Reset/USB/Audio isn't bundled into one cable that then branches out and plugs into their respective locations. If it is, you risk cutting your power switch button which would then make it so you couldn't turn on your PC until you replaced the cable/switch.

Unadvisable but possible.

Thanks for the reply. My computer is currently unassembled, the case, a Q300L, has a front io panel that can be moved into different positions, so it is one circuit board into which the sound, USB and PW/Rest cables connect to, they are all separate cables though.

So while modding my case I was thinking of sniping the thick USB cable coming from the panel. The screws securing the USB cable to the panel are hard to get to so cutting would be simpler.

That should link to an image of the io panel
