My ethernet card is onboard to my motherboard, I have a Toshiba Satellite P755 laptop, model # P755-S5320. I have high speed cable internet access., I should be getting 150mbps to 200mbps, but only getting 45 to 50mbps, the cable tech told me that my ethernet card is out of date, and the only way to get faster connection speed is to buy another laptop, because technology changes every 6 months, and my card is soldered to my motherboard. So, here's my question, can I unsolder the card from the motherboard and solder in another one that is up to date, I have the tools and knowledge on how to do this. I don't want to buy a new laptop every year just to have fast internet. Please I need some answers on this, I know there's many techs out there that can answer this for me, Thank you.

According to the specs, your laptop has a USB3 port. Get a USB ethernet adapter. That will give you gigabit connectivity without requiring a soldering station....
No, it is very unlikely that your bios would recognize some other device attached in that manner.

You can buy a USB wireless adapter that should help, but don't expect to get the advertised speed from wireless -- at even 5 feet from the wireless radio source the real transfer rates will be well below half of what is advertised.

First, is your 50mbit a wired speed or wireless speed? You should be able to get full 200mbit speed with wired. Wireless you might get 75Mbit.

Wireless speed is a function of the router AND the client device. What router do you have? What link rate does the wireless network show ? 150Mbit?

Well, thank you for the reply, but I don't need a wireless card, that's what I'm using now, I need a hard wired ethernet card that I can solder onto my motherboard, with wi-fi, I'm getting 50mbps, but I pay for the higher speed, that I have to use the ethernet cable that plugs into my router to my ethernet port on my laptop. Thank you anyway, I still think that I can unsolder the old one, and resolder a new one onto my mobo, I just want a confirmation that it will work is all.

Thank you for that suggestion on getting a USB ethernet adapter, I did buy one of those but it was a 2.0 adapter that was only a 10/100, I just ordered one from Amazon that is what you suggested, the
Tripp Lite U336-000-R-USB 3.0 ethernet adapter, which goes 10/100/1000, I bet that the 3.0 and the 1000, will give me faster speed, Thank you so very much!
