[SOLVED] Can I start a motherboard without a cpu?

I just got a new asus b 550F motherboard and was wondering if I could test it by plugging my pc into the wall without the cpu installed. Several people have told me that this will cause lasting damage to the motherboard. Any advice?

It won’t damage anything but it also won’t achieve anything as you need a cpu to run the system. Without a cpu the most you will get is an error code
