Can I still use this possibly fried HDD?/ Can one fried component added to a build fry other components?

Hello fellow builders! I'm new here and this is my first build/computer related project, so please forgive me if I am blatantly ignorant. I have a 1TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD that I salvaged from a pc that was at least partially fried (the PSU was certainly fried. I know this because I replaced it due to it not turning on. After the replacement, it turned on, but the pc still did not function, no display, etc.) Because this is my first build I'd like to save as much money as possible by using this HDD. Could I use this HDD in my new build without risking damage to my other components such as mobo and GPU if it turns out it is not fried? And is there a way to test the HDD for damage without risking damage to my other components? If there is any chance of it destroying my other part I will completely forgo chancing it and just get a new HDD. Feel free to ask for more info. Thanks in advance!!!

Solution
A bad HDD may not work, but it will not damage other components. If available attach it to another machine (or use a USB caddy) and run the manufacturer diagnostic on it from their support site. Example: SeaTools for Seagate or WD Diagnostic for WD, and so on to avoid wasting time trying to use it in a new build if it is dead.

That is not true of other bad components though, a bad PSU or motherboard for example can damage other stuff.
