i have an amd fx 6300 six-core processor. i don't realy know if i can swap over to an intel i5 4670K without any problems i've read about it and an amd fx 6300 uses an AM3+ socket but the i5 uses a 1150 socket should i get a different motherboard or can i still get it?

if i do need to change it can i use: GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-Gaming 3 LGA

After you change the motherboard a fresh install of Windows is highly recommended.

Also make sure to get all the correct drivers after the fresh install.

you will need a new mobo to go with it. the fx and i5 are not the same type of socket as you noticed so you will need a socket 1150 board. they can be had for as little as $70 and as high as $300 depending on your goals for it. basic non overclocking vs high end mega overclocking abilities.

Check the benchmarks of the games or software that you mainly use. Performance wise, there may not be that much benefit to upgrading your processor.

It may be a better investment to upgrade your video card. Last year I was playing Bioshock Infinite on a Sempron 145 with a R9 290x at 1080p with very high graphic settings. I can't remember a moment where the performance suffered due to my CPU.

Troll at its best, the sempron 145 is a single core cpu, go troll somewhere else, the fx 6300 should suffice and in any case upgrade to fx 8350/70
