I have an MSI X570 Godlike motherboard, and it came with a wifi antenna. If I were to tape the antenna upside down underneath my desk, would that inhibit the wifi signal and decrease the internet speed? The manual says to place the antenna as high as possible but doesn't explicitly explain why. Plus, it's kind of an eyesore.

My reason for wanting to do this is cable management; I want hide all of my wires and peripherals as much as possible. I ordered some equipment from Amazon that are coming in today to help me with the cable management process.

My gaming PC is set up in the loft on the second floor of my house, where my modem, router, and Linksys MX5300 Mesh are installed; these 3 devices are literally ten feet behind me.

If your router is only 10 feet away, can you run an Ethernet cable? That will almost always give you better throughput and latency than even the best wireless connection.

If you want to stay with the wi-fi, it is probably ok to put the antenna under the desk since the router is so close.

When we bought this house, my wife made me promise her to never hook up an Ethernet cable ever again. We used to live in this dingy apartment--where I didn't manage the Ethernet cables very well--and she'd trip over them. Now she wants everything to be wireless lol. 😀

But I will definitely try taping it underneath my desk. I'm waiting for the adhesives I ordered to come in today. Thank you all for your helpful responses!!

Properly strung and color coordinated ethernet is basically invisible.
