Hello. I have an old laptop (had it for over 3-4 years) and I'm planning on building a new computer soon.

I saw that if you're running a retail version of Windows you can transfer that copy to another computer but not with OEM.

So I ran slmgr -dli in command prompt and got this: (see picture)

As seen it states I'm in the RETAIL Channel, does this mean I am able to put this copy of Windows onto a new build? However it has the Windows 8 sticker.

Also the laptop is was upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10.

Thank you.

EDIT: I downloaded "ProduKey" to find out what my product key was and it tells me two product keys.

"Windows (BIOS OEM Key) | No Product ID | [Product Key]"

and

"Windows 10 Home | Product ID | [Product Key]"

If you are currently running Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update you should be able to link your license to your Microsoft Account. Benefit? You can upgrade hardware and still re-activate Windows using your Microsoft Account:

You appear to have the retail version, however, since you upgraded I don't know who you go about getting it on the new computer. Do you have the full installation key? You might have to put the existing drive in the new computer and boot it, then activate it. Then you can choose to keep it in there or clone it to a new drive. I'm not sure... be interested to know how it works out.

Yes you can re-install Windows 8 (retail) on new hardware but you won't receive Windows 10 for free. The free upgrade time is over. You can re-install Windows 8 on the old laptop and it will receive Windows 10 for free.

At one point I had to send the laptop back to the place where I got it from but it was failing to boot into Windows.

Also I've now updated the post with a screenshot of what ProduKey says.

Thanks for the reply.
