can i transfer window 7 from a broken laptop

hello i have a broken laptop with window 7 it was my granddads but he had loads of viruses and the laptop broke. i am building a pc and need a os but they are expensive can i move the os onto the new system without getting the viruses i can just make out the product key on the sitcker
like can i call micrsoft tell them the the laptop broke and get a new os with the product key i have ???

No, you can't transfer OEM keys to a new PC.

It might activate, but that doesn't make it legal.
