Can I transfer windows from a hdd to a ssd?

I am a first time builder and i am getting a Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive as storage.But I was wandering later if i got a ssd could I transfer windows to it and boot from it?

The only way is to clone the HDD to the SSD. This is not recommended if you've ever had viruses or have files you don't need. Fresh install is the only other way.

Yes you can clone the HDD to the SSD. However, if I were building or buying a system today and starting with a fresh Windows install, I would start from scratch with an SSD as the boot drive. You can buy them for $70 to $100. Skimp somewhere else. I don't think any other $100 will improve the perceived speed of a computer as much as booting and running your apps from an SSD.
