Question Can I update BIOS without display for Ryzen 7 2700

Old CPU: AMD A8-9800
Motherboard: A320M-HDV
BIOS:Unknown
The Ryzen 7 2700 is currently in the motherboard and nothing shows up on display. Would I need to put in the old cpu and download the update or can I use a flash drive (or do I need an update at all?)

The Ryzen gaming series has no built in GPU like you old A8 does. You'll need to plug in to a separate GPU.

If you've got the video cable connected to the GPU, then you most likely need to upgrade the BIOS with the old CPU in. If the 2700 isn't in the agesa list in the NVRAM it won't even try to boot.

Install the latest one for your motherboard. Put the unzipped bios file on a USB flash drive and follow the instructions from your motherboard manual. Or, there's usually a self-explanatory option in the BIOS.

So I put in my old CPU and nothings loading either.
I’ve tried it with and without my old GPU and nothing happened. If it helps, my mouse and keyboard don’t turn on either.

My old gpu doesn’t require power and everything else is plugged in fine, all the fans start up but nothing else

The new cpu could have confused the mobo, unlikely, but could. Disconnect power, hold case power button for a good while (30 seconds or so) to discharge remaining power from capacitors. Locate coin size silver coloured cmos battery on motherboard and remove it for 5mins. Remember which side it goes back, + side up usually. Hopefully this'll clear cmos, reset bios parameters and get your 9800 working again.

As mentioned, check where the video cable is connected. Perhaps clear cmos without the gpu installed and only use motherboard video.

Make sure, since youre changing back and forth cpus, the heatsink is installed and cpu_fan header on the motherboard is connected.

And be very very gentle installing cpu to prevent bent pins.
