HI good people i really hope someone can give me advice. I am running a Win 10 desktop with a i5 6400 and i love it to bits 😀but i know W11 is on the horizon, so my big question is can i upgrade the cpu to meet win 11 requirements. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. View: https://imgur.com/a/93Kugm0
im not sure if i correctly posted the image as this system is new to me.
Unfortunately it cant be upgraded to "officially" support Windows 11, but you can definitely still get windows 11 on there and it will likely run just fine. The oldest machine i have running 11 regularly is an i7 2600 based Optiplex 790, its stable and works just fine. I do need to fully download the latest version, and make sure the registry is modified so i can install the latest feature pack updates, but its a quick change and it hasn't caused me any issues. That said, if you care about your data, make sure to do a backup before attempting to modify your windows install.

Is there some feature of W11 that you will want?
W10 is still going to continue to run with the protections you now have.
I think one is at more risk of screwing things up trying hacks to get W11 to run than to simply continue with W10.
Hi geofelt thanks for replying, im not that experienced with PCs being elderly dosnt help! but it does look like that microsoft will force people onto win 11 or at least force them to pay for win 10 support. As i cant upgrade it looks like i either try a hack or buy a new PC I guess a new PC will be the best option in the long term. Thanks once again for your input.

How much do you need Microsoft support?
Have you ever called them for support?
There are still many who run Windows 7.
Your pc will keep running for as long as you want it to.
Use windows defender and don't click on emails that you are not expecting and you will be ok.
Keep an external backup of what you hold dear, such as photos.
So long as your pc does the job for you, keep it.
And FWIW, I am at 86 probably much more elderly than you.

Hi geofelt your 19 years my senior😀 i hope im still going strong at 86. As for your advice it does make a lot of sense so with that in mind i will keep with what i have (It has never let me down) and see what the future holds. Thank you so much for your advice. go n-éirí leat
