Hi, I have Compaq Presario A900 Notebook PC. I was just wondering if I can upgrade RAM to 8GB.

My current specs:

System Model: Compaq Presario A900 Notebook PC
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: Intel(R) Core2Duo T5750 2.00 GHz
Installed RAM: 3 GB
Chipset: Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family
System Type: 64-bit OS
BIOS Version: HP F.34
SMBIOS Version: 2.4

I want to upgrade RAM to 8 GB, as I found on Intel.com that 965 chipset does support max of 8 GB RAM, however when I Google Presario A900 RAM upgrade, I get comments of continuous crashes and blue screens of death.

Can anyone please guide me with some technical details in this regard.

That's what I'm so confused about it. the msinfo32 says I have Compaq Presario A900 with 3 GB RAM already installed. I'm starting to doubt this utility, as everywhere I found saying Presario has 2GB max support.

Help.

The thing I'm worried of, is will it work fine? I mean i've been seeing Blue screen of death issues and hardware conflicts on everywhere i search about this upgrade. what do you suggest?

what's the MAX memory? that's the problem I haven't found a concrete answer on. the intel.com says the chipset allows upto 8GB MAX memory. While the compaq presario A900 product specs page says it has 2 slots one with 1024 and the other is 2048. so a MAX memory is 3 GB in all.

if it says it can support 2gb, i think its just in that one slot. im pretty sure that your compaq only has one slot available at the bottom. and im pretty sure that that slot will support a 2gb stick which you seem to already have.

so you pretty much answered your question. (i think)

What I read HP has listed a maximum of 4GB with 64-bit OS.

To determine the limiting Intel Chipset use CPU-z and look at the Mainboard tab; CPU-z - http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

I need to know the same: it's quite a lot of money to go splashing out on memory, only to find the laptop isn't up to it
