Can I upgrade my computer CPU?

Basically, I want to know if I can upgrade my CPU. I bought a pre-built gaming pc in 2015 and i want to know now to if i can or not upgrade it. If not then I'll just buy or build a new PC.

You can get an I5 or I7 on the 1150 chipset. What is your budget?

You can upgrade it but not to the latest ones. The Core i7 4790K is the best you can get. It's still a good CPU but it's a bit overpriced even while buying used. The i5 8400 can match it or beat it in a lot of scenarios. If you go with the 8400 the downside is you cannot reuse your RAM. You have to upgrade to DDR4 which is quite expensive. Also you'll need a new motherboard. Either option you go with will serve you well for a few years at least. Neither option will be too expensive. Though if you want 16GB of DDR4 you better be ready to pay around $200. I also recommend a GTX 1050 ti or 1060. Whichever you can afford.

I would double check on the upgrade with a pre-built PC, especially one from the major companies like Dell, as the BIOS could limit upgrade options. Best to search for your PC model and the desired CPU upgrade to see if there are known compatibility issues.

2 options i7-4790k it will last at least another 2 years.
Even the i5 4690k is a nice cpu

Otherwise, it's an entire new computer.
