Can I upgrade my CPU?

I have an acer predator G3-605.
I swapped the GTX 645 out and replaced it with a GTX 970.
I was wondering if I would be able to upgrade my CPU, possibly to an I7.
If I can, what CPU would you recommend?

My current specs:
I5 4440
GTX 970
DDR3 8GB RAM
500w Gold FSP power supply
Cooler master Hyper 212 evo CPU fan
Acer Motherboard
1TB HDD WD Blue
250GB Kingston SSD.

you can get i7 4790 but i dont think its worth it.

You might be able to upgrade, but it depends on whether ACER allowed for the upgrade in the motherboard BIOS. OEM's are notorious for limiting CPU compatibility.

Beyond that, it's likely not worth it at this time. Most games wont use more than 4 cores.

You probably could upgrade but I would double check the motherboard on Acer's website. At most I would put the Xeon E3 1231 V3 into it as it's similar to a i7 but much cheaper. Gaming wise though you may not notice much of a difference between your current CPU and the Xeon or i7.

It'll apparently work. But aside from a literal handful of games (maybe Overwatch & BF1), you won't really see any improvement in performance.

I concur with the above - the i7 from than generation of Intel chips will be a performance boost, but it is going to have a higher power consumption. The K series is going to have a higher base clock and stock boost clock and it will allow you to overclock if you have interest in doing that if the motherboard supports it. If all you're doing is gaming and don't need to stream the gaming session, then there isn't a significant benefit but if you encode video often or if you like to have background applications running like streaming media then it might make for a more enjoyable experience.
