I have a laptop with an Intel Core Celeron B820.
The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C850.

I was just wondering if I could upgrade the CPU to an Intel Core i7-3720QM, or an
Intel Core i7-2630QM seeing as though they all use the g2 socket.

Is this possible? Or is it not that simple. Please forgive my lack of knowledge here.

i wouldn't think so. that celeron is a sandy bridge CPU while the i7 is an ivy bridge so it is a newer generation CPU. so even if the CPU can be changed out (as long as the celeron is not soldered onto the mainboard) it is likely toshiba wouldn't have a BIOS update that would support that CPU

Definitely not that simple. While no one can say for sure without trying ...I don't like your chances ... both those quad core processors you're asking about are 45 watt. Your current processor is 35 watt and the laptop is designed to cool accordingly. A 45 watt processor would generate too much heat in my opinion (assuming it would even run).

You'd be much more likely to be successful if you stay at 35 watts eg.... Core i5-2540M (PGA)
