Hello friends,

I have a quite old model of DELL laptop, and i dont have enough money to purchase another higher spec laptop, so i just want to upgrade my GPU. But, first let me tell you my laptop specs.

Name: DELL Inspiron 14 3000 Series (system model: 3442)
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit (6.3 Build 9600)
Processor: Intel Core i5-4210-U CPU 1.70 GHz with 4 CPUs
Memory: 4GB RAM
DirectX 11.

I just wanna play more games in this laptop, or should i buy the new one?
Also i've been thinking, if i upgrade my GPU, then my CPU won't work properly? Isn't that right?

Thanks..

Every laptop can use an egpu. Tb3 isn't needed. Expresscard and mpcie have been around much longer. There's also m.2 that could offer the same bandwidth as tb3. The laptop has an easy access port to the wifi card which is mpcie. The laptop is still rather low specs so don't expect to play many games. You will need the adapter, https://egpu.io/forums/expresscard-mpcie-m-2-adapters/us7-50-generic-mpcie-egpu-adapter/ these generic ones can be found in multiple places for cheap, a psu, gpu and external monitor.

There is no gpu to upgrade. The igpu is in the cpu and all U cpus are soldered. Also a gpu has nothing to do with a cpu functioning.
its possible that the CPU in your laptop can be replaced although depending on the CPU's that were offered with your laptop originally your systems BIOS may not support a CPU upgrade. the GPU is always soldered onto the mainboard so there is no way to upgrade it

most laptops have the CPU soldered onto the mainboard too

your only upgrade options would be a HDD/SSD upgrade or RAM if your laptop can support more then 4GB

I think my laptop doesn’t have Thunderbolt 3, so i guess i just have to save more money to be the new laptop, the better one:))) Thank you for the information

Many laptops out there CAN actually upgrade the GPU, however your model is not one of them. Many high end gaming laptops use the modular MXM standard for their Graphics Cards, which allow for replacement/upgrade of the chip. (With some knowlege of Bios / v-bios flashing)
