Being an HP, unless there's some other processors that others have confirmed worked, I would stick to what originally came stock which is the list here:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02794658

Here's some comparisons from that list:

If you want to move to a 45w processor, you may also want to consider what I have in my own HP, although I don't know if either of these would be supported:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compar...el-i7-2670QM-vs-Intel-i7-2820QM/798vs878vs885

Something to keep in mind is that there are significant single thread performance differences so if you want flat out...

Hello, yes you can upgrade your CPU in that laptop. I give you a list of some examples. I don't recommend to buy the QM cpus from the list cause you may have thermal problems if you push hard the laptop. For normal usage the quad core chip should work fine.

Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM (2.20 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache) ( Quad core )
Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM (2.00 GHz, 6 MB L3 cache) ( Quad core )
Intel® Core™ i7-2620M (2.70 GHz, 4 MB L3 cache) ( Dual core )
Intel® Core™ i5-2540M (2.60 GHz, 3 MB L3 cache) ( Dual core )

Something to keep in mind is that there are significant single thread performance differences so if you want flat out speed, you'll want to look at those. But if you need more cores, the quad cores would be a better move. Unfortunately, you really have to choose one or the other on this platform.

Edit: so it looks like the 2820 won't work because you're limited to certain 2nd gen core processors according to this link:
