I don't mean to talk you out of what you are building but what are you doing with your computer if you don't mind me asking. It's a question to try and find out the best case scenario for your work usage. I have a i7 4790k I game as well I like the ability to make dab into other professional type things so for me I was okay getting the 4790k over the i5. If you are strictly gaming maybe a 4690k would be more appropriate for you. Also, yes you can upgrade your processor the z97 chipset lends itself to be able to...

Actually you could get a 360MM RAD and CPU block for ~$300. I should know, I have done it myself.

Still probably more then your typical pc builder would want to do. I know its appealing to me but the maintenance involved would bug even with distilled water. And fittings can get expensive. For most I would say air cooling or closed loop. With his build if you are putting 300 out there wise as well put that money somewhere else like his pocketses.

Yeah, the way I figured it was that my processor cost me $200. If I were to burn it up over clocking, I would have to pay another $200 for a new one. Thats $400 total spent on processors. So I then decided I had a max budget of $400 to spend on a water-cooling loop. I only spent $320, and I used coolant with an anti-microbal agent in it to make maintenance negligible.

Well there are things that you are supposed to do from my understanding with water cooling you are supposed to drain out everything and clean it out. And I believe you are supposed to have it sit out for a little bit then re connect and re install and re fill your fluid. It's more then what most people will want to do I have a h105 it'll be fine today it will be fine 2 years from now with 0 zip maintenance. It's not a bad way to go with a custom loop its just expensive anything really beyond 50 dollars with cpu cooling people are going to consider on the expensive side from my observation. CPU's will burn out more so with the amount of volts that you put into it. For example with my 4790k the stock voltage is 1.25v I believe and my CPU runs at 4.6 on 1.24v so I think I'll be okay for a while.

Yeah. I mean from what I know with an anti-microbial agent you should clean every few years. But yeah, the maintenance is pretty annoying.
