Can I upgrade my Processor

Currently, I have a Compaq Presario CQ5110F Desktop PC with apparently

Pegatron M2N68-LA motherboard.

1) I think the this motherboard has a AM2 socket. Can you put in the AMD Phenom II Quad Core processer which I belive is AM3 Socket.

If so, will I need to add any additional fans for this?

2) I noticed on HP site that it says it supports PC2-6400 memory, does that mean I can not go to DDR3 memory module?

Am3 will not work in an AM2 socket. And DDR3 will not run in a DDR2 slot PC2-6400 is DDR2 800 ram.

Now on the other hand AM3 can sometimes run in a AM2+ socket.

This Phenom is an AM2+

It should run but i would ask compaq directly if it will work you might have to update the bios.

This is why I asked. I am getting conflicting answers. On another post, I saw someone say it does.

There are AM2+ phenom IIs This one should work but i would ask compaq might require a bios update.

Sounds good. So, it really sounds like any processor upgrading I do on the list, I will make sure it has AM2 Support.

AM2+ is different then AM2 its a little newer.
